Try good wines and enjoy wine stories

One night the wine was singing in the bottles:

“Mankind, dear waif, I send to you, in spite

Of prisoning glass and rosy wax that throttles,

A song that’s full of brotherhood and light.

(Charles Baudelaire, The soul of wine in Flowers of evil).

Who could be better than Dionysus / Bachuss  god of wine, bloom and theatre, for tasting and discribing seriosly and joking the delights of a good wine with friends?

The Bacus Theatre is an excellent excuse for a wine conversation or a wine tasting party. It makes easy and fun to talk about different wines, the aroma, colour and bouquet. Other topics can be also nice to talk about,  vendimia the climate, or theatre, poetry or love.

The Teatrino Bacus is a three wine bottle wooden box and and a wonderful theatre at the same time. An unexpected present with wine in the inside, or as a very special box for keeping wine at home o for giving it as a present for friends.

This little, but complete theatre comes with a wineyard scene sheet, with a winery foot pressing recipient and also a wooden and paper-mache Dionysus or Bacchus puppet with it’s pedestal. When mooving the Bacchus character  in front or behind the scenery one can create or recite many stories and poems:

(From Rubaiyat, Omar Khayyam)

II

Dreaming when Dawn’s Left Hand was in the Sky

I heard a Voice within the Tavern cry,

“Awake, my Little ones, and fill the Cup

“Before Life’s Liquor in its Cup be dry.”

VI

And David’s Lips are lockt; but in divine

High-piping Pehlevi, with “Wine! Wine! Wine!

“Red Wine!”-the Nightingale cries to the Rose

That sallow cheek of hers to incarnadine.

When once you hear the roses are in bloom

The is the time, my love, to pour the wine;

Houris and palaces and Heaven and Hell-

These are but fairy-tales, forget them all.

See! I clasp the cup whose power

Yields more wisdom in an hour

Than whole years of study give,

Vainly seeking how to live.

Wine dispenses into air,

Selfish thoughts, and selfish care.

The Teatrino Bacus can be used to represent any story as a traditional Toy Theatre placing in it other scenery sheets and other characters. It has an ample scenery, a three guide fly system and a two side curtain (with the wine logo or the simple wooden colour on one side , and the traditional red on the other) in the front façade.

This winebox-theatre can be built up by demand using the special wooden wine box you have chosen for your present. In this case the theatre will have on the curtain and the sides, the name and the logo of the wine in the inside.

It can also be constructed on a wine wooden box without any writting on it, and you can place in the inside three different wine bottles that you wish to taste or give as a present.

Puppet show with Trémolo music school festivÀnima is a puppet and wooden Toy Theatre construction workshop.

The miniature theatres of festivÀnima, in addition to being an artistic project, provide enormous opportunities for play, improvisation and theatrical amusement.

The theatres, with stage, backstage side guides – which provide a fly system -, front curtain, backdrop, poster, written prompt and dressing room, offer – in miniature – the possibilities of the traditional theatre, as different perspectives can be created from sequences of changeable two dimensional illustrations.

festivÀnima originated in 1999 in Colombia, under the name Mireaver, and was started as an artistic endeavour by Jimena Uribe, both as a parallel activity to her professional career and as a game shared with her children. Jimena is an architect, and in the year 2000 one of her illustrations was included in a show representing Latin America in Utopia at the XXVII World Congress of the IBBY. Since then, she has combined illustration, architecture and design to create the miniature theatres, scenery and puppet characters, while sharing her experience and playful concept of life through workshops on fantastical drawing, recycled toys, and origami toys.

She took part annually until 2007, in Expoartesanías, in various book fairs, and in the Persian Market at the Iberoamerican Festival of Theatre, Bogota. In Catalonia she has participated in several craft fairs and puppet shows.

“The Teatrinos have been a window through which I can let myself fly every day; they have confirmed me as a designer and, increasingly, as a puppeteer, storyteller and dreamer by profession.” J. U.

A frog story

World Congress of the IBBY.
